Your Bilingual International School

Sphere is international because it develops internationally minded learners through a bilingual curriculum, in Portuguese and English, which values the multiple ways in which people think, express themselves, interact and build new knowledge.

Educating students who are critical, knowledgeable and good communicators, capable of working collaboratively to create solutions for local and global issues, is at the heart of our mission. To this end, Sphere innovates in its way of teaching and believes in an approach that is personalized, inquiry-based, humanized and connected with the world.

An Innovative and International School!

Innovative

Sphere was a pioneer in the construction and implementation of a bilingual international curriculum in Brazil. International schools, previously associated with a foreign country, with different subjects primarily in an international language, now include those that adopt a bi/multilingual and multicultural perspective, supported by international certification bodies. Based on the premises and practices of excellence in international education and the Brazilian National Curriculum (Base Nacional Comum Curricular - BNCC), Sphere adopts an integrated curriculum, in which different areas of knowledge and disciplines are carried out in Portuguese and English, in a dynamic and interconnected way.

Bilingual and International

International education at Sphere includes two essential aspects: multilingualism and multiculturalism. In addition to Portuguese and English, Sphere values each person's mother tongue, as well as the arts, technology and diverse modes of expression. Thinking and interacting in two or more languages creates opportunities for learners to transfer ideas and make connections, expanding their possibilities of making meaning. The multicultural lens that guides the Sphere curriculum supports the notion that there is no single way of being, thinking and acting. Learners explore diverse cultural references and progressively develop skills and approaches to learning that go beyond the academic content.

How does multilingual learning happen at Sphere?

Children use their different languages to interact and make meaning. When they first come to school, the language of affection is what makes them feel safe and welcome. Throughout their school journey, they begin to explore English, Portuguese, visual arts, music and technology, among other forms of expression. International education goes far beyond bilingualism, as it expands the possibilities of exploring different perspectives in multiple ways.

Testimonials

Adapting to a new environment is a skill that I developed during my time at Sphere, from being in contact with different languages, cultures and projects, and that skill has helped me throughout my journey. Being able to think outside the box, and having the confidence to design and carry out my ideas was also something Sphere encouraged me throughout every class project.
